Reading an RTP of 96.16%
What does 96.16 percent actually buy you? Nothing, per session — that is the honest answer. RTP describes the long-run average return across all play, so the house keeps its margin no matter how any single visit goes. Treat the figure as a measure of how the game is priced, not how it will behave tonight. The binding version of the number lives in the official game sheet inside the game itself; ours is a faithful copy, theirs is the contract.
What an hour of play costs
With the RTP this game's official sheet publishes, your bet size and your pace, this is what an hour of play costs on average.
- Expected cost is the share of what you wager that the game keeps on average: 100% minus the RTP. In any given hour the result strays from that figure in both directions.
- Use it to set a budget: decide before you play what an hour is worth paying and how long you will play.

Mechanics
These are the mechanics the provider documents for this game — what each one does, without the marketing gloss.
- Each win clears its symbols from the grid and the refill can form fresh wins, repeating until a drop adds nothing new.
- Symbols pay by count anywhere on the grid — there are no fixed paylines to line up.
- Landing enough scatters triggers a free-spins round, where the game plays on without further stakes.
- When multiplier symbols land, they magnify the round's payout — the mechanism behind both the highlights and the dry spells.
- Wild symbols stand in for regular ones, completing combinations that would otherwise miss.
Getting to know Hot Potato risk-free
Hot Potato ships with a demo mode, and it is the honest place to start: same rules, same odds, no stake. Use it to see how often the interesting moments actually arrive, because that frequency is the real price of admission. When real money enters, the game does not get friendlier — so fix a spending limit first and stop when you reach it, not when the game feels due.

Frequently asked questions
- How much does Hot Potato pay back?
- 96.16 percent, per Thunderkick's published game sheet — a theoretical long-run return, with the house edge making up the rest. Operator builds can vary, so the figure that binds is the one printed in the game's own information sheet at the site where you play.
- Is there a way to try Hot Potato without spending money?
- The demo version on the provider's site costs nothing and hides nothing — same rules, same odds, same rhythm. Money moves in neither direction, so it is the sensible place to find out whether the game suits you.
- Can any strategy beat Hot Potato?
- The game runs on a certified RNG, tested by independent labs before release, so each round is genuinely random. That same certification is why it cannot be beaten: the return is fixed in the math, and every system ever sold against it loses to arithmetic.
